Enjoying the art of cooking
One of my favourite hobby is cooking. My mother is a great cook. I am a decent cook(bordering on excellent I might add), when I am in the mood. I am mostly a self taught cook though have learnt lots of tricks and tips from my mother, lots of chefs(on the T.V) and numerous books. I would like share some of the recipes that I test from cookbooks, magazines, newspaper clippings and of course web sites.
Mung Dhal Uppama
This has become one of my favorite food item. Learn the recipe from my mother.
Ingredients
- 1 cup split whole mung dhal(green gram)
- A small piece of ginger
- 1 medium sized onion
- few sprigs of curry leaves
- Mustard seeds
- Urad dhal
- Channa dhal
- two dried red chillies
- two green chillies
Method.
- Soak the split green gram dhal for one hour.
- Add the ginger, salt and grind into a smooth batter
- Leave it aside for 30 mins and add 1 teaspoon of cooking soda.
- Boil water and steam the batter using a idly plate
- Steam it for 10 mins till the idly is well done.
- Cool it and break the idly into bread like crumbs
- Now add oil to a Kadai and season with onions, channal dhal, urad dhal, curry leaves, red chillies and green chillies
- Add the crumbled idlies to the Kadai and mix well.
- Serve the Uppama hot with Ginger chutney. Absolutely delicious.
